Itinerary

Pena Palace and Park

Marvel at Pena Palace, one of the most magnificent and recognisable tourist attractions of Portugal. The palace exemplifies the 19th century Romanticism style of architecture and stands atop a rocky peak, which is the second highest point in Sintra Hills. The Pena Palace richly decorated with Moorish and Manueline motifs. Enjoy panoramic views of the peaceful forests and lush gardens covered by exotic plants and flowers. The Palace of Pena was designated a National Monument in 1910 and forms part of the Cultural Landscape of Sintra, which has been classified by UNESCO as World Heritage since 1995.

Sintra Historical Center

Sintra is widely acclaimed as one of Portugal's most beautiful destinations, full of gardens, tiled villas, colorful palaces, and neo-Gothic structures, all surrounded by verdant hills rolling toward the Atlantic Ocean. Visit Sintra Village Historical Center with free time to taste the traditional "Travesseiros de Sintra" The Historical Village of Sintra is one of the most known and romantic Portuguese villages. Due to its palaces, woods and the fog typical of its mountains, Sintra has become a magical place with countless legends to tell. You will have free time to see this beautiful village and also the small and charming traditional shops, antique shops, restaurants and historic cafes but above all the landscape that has already inspired countless artists, writers and kings.

Cabo da Roca

One of the most marvelous views in whole Portugal – the westernmost point of Continental Europe “Cabo da Roca”. We will pass through the wonderful Sintra National Park until arriving at Cabo da Roca, the most western point of continental Europe that was mentioned by our acclaimed Luís de Camões as the place "Where the earth ends and the sea begins." It is a place of natural beauty, with imposing cliffs of 150 meters high. A few centuries ago, there was a fort that played an important role in the defense of Lisbon and the third oldest lighthouse on the Portuguese coast is still here in operation. Here the landscape is breathtaking and absolute bliss for photography lovers.

Guincho Beach

Part of the Sintra-Cascais Natural Park, Guincho Beach is endowed with a surrounding landscape of great beauty in which the white sand dunes contrast with the deep tones of the Serra de Sintra hills, looming in the background. Given both its strong winds and waves, the Beach attracts a great following among bodyboarders and surfers. Throughout summer, there is generally a good northerly wind ensuring Guincho is excellent for windsurfing.

Hell’s mouth

The next stop is absolutely beautiful rock wall with a very dramatic name – Mouth of Hell (Boca do Inferno). This breathtaking chasm located on a cliff seashore close to Cascais will engage you with crashing waves. It is believed this place used to be a cave that over time and by the force of the sea relented and gave rise to the scenario as it is known today. Currently, Boca do Inferno is an open cavity, with a sort of arch where it enters the seawater. In days of rough waters it is possible to hear the sound of water hitting the rocks, such a unique sound that makes an analogy to the location´s name. Arriving at Boca do Inferno is possible to contemplate the beauty of the place from the top, however, there is also a path that leads to the other side of the “arc” of the cavity, where the water enters.

Cascais

After viewing the landscape of Mouth of Hell we will stop at the fishing village –Cascais with its lovely harbor full of small fishing boats. This town in the 19th century became a favorite summer destination of the European aristocracy and noble families for its idyllic location and a pleasant climate. Stop in the elegant resort town of Cascais, a once quiet fishing village that was discovered by the European nobility for its idyllic setting, and became a favorite destination for the international jet set thereafter. Stroll along the harbor, before transferring back to Lisbon.

Estoril

The drive will take you along the Marginal Avenue, a winding waterfront road with sweeping views of the Tagus River and the Atlantic Ocean and panoramic view over Casino Estoril. Estoril has one of the most beautiful leisure areas by the sea with fine sand beaches and crystal clear water. Along the coast we find besides an extensive beach, Casino Estoril, the largest casino in Europe but also where the famous secret agent, James Bond, was conceived. Portugal was a neutral country in the 2nd World War, which attracted people from the spy networks on both sides of the coin.

"Start a Marriage Scholarship for Igor

First and foremost Igor was great as a guide. He gave us a lot of background on himself after we asked some questions. The van was comfortable and we were able to get to each place easily. The tour was set up so that we go to Pena Palace first. Its a good thing because by the time we left our tour people were waiting up to an hour to an hour and a half to see the palace. The palace itself was an interesting mix of western as well as moorish and indian cultures. Igor even showed us where the original ruins stood that were leftover from the earthquake. Igor gave us a great tour of the palace and was very knowledgeable. Next we went to Cabo da Roca and even though there was fog it was clear enough to get some breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean. We also went to Boca da Inferno which was a very beautiful site as well. Igor suggested lunch for us and we as a group had a great time eating and drinking. All in all it was an awesome tour and I hope someone starts a scholarship so he can have a proper wedding before he reaches the age of 65 a few decades from now. Dont let him end up as the man in the pink house."

"Day tour to Sintra and Cascais

What a great day! Philipe met us on time, we were part of a small group of 8. Sadly that day the 35 min drive to Sintra took 2 hours due to a bad traffic accident, but Philipe reassured us that he didnt mind working later to include the entire itinerary. Sintra is breathtaking, despite the crowds. After the Pena Palace we had free time in the historic village before driving 15 minutes to a local restaurant. Lunch was 22e per head and included appetisers, main, dessert and unlimited wine, coffee etc. Very tasty, good value and nice to relax with the other members of the group. On to Cabo de Roca which was spectacular but freezing ( take jacket!) then Cascais, a very chic resort with great charm. We had free time here to sit in the sun and take it all in. It was an excellent day, great value and Philipes knowledge and enthusiasm made it even better. Thank you."

"Excellent tour close to Lisbon

We had a wonderful day with our tour guide Igor on the small group Sintra and Cabo da Roca tour. We only had 6 people since 2 people did not show up for the tour. It think it may have been a tight fit in the car if there were 8 of us but 6 was perfect. Started the day at Pena Palace and got through it pretty quickly. I love that he explained all the little details outside that I would definitely not have picked up on my own. I thought Igor did a fantastic job, with just enough details to be informative but not too much history to make it boring. Definitely glad we went early as there was a long line for Pena palace after we left. Sintra was small but charming, and I really liked the Ginja and would recommend trying it at least once. Caso Da Roca was windy and I would recommend wearing a light jacket. Views were amazing. The temperature throughout the day changed a lot. Overall we had a great group and I enjoyed and would recommend this tour."
