Not all treasures are revealed immediately. After extensive restoration, the world-renowned library of the National Palace of Mafra officially reopened its doors on Friday, January 9th.
As one of the most emblematic wings of the Palace, the library is once again welcoming visitors and researchers. The recent works, funded by the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR), have significantly improved access and security, ensuring this “cathedral of books” remains preserved for future generations.

Enhancing National and World Heritage
According to Museums and Monuments of Portugal, the project aimed to reinforce the enjoyment of this space, which holds UNESCO World Heritage status. While the library is ready, restoration continues in the Basilica and surrounding cloisters.
