The Castles Quest is an adventure where the adventurer supports him or herself, on their own risk and with a philosophy concept of Bikepacking.

In this challenge the participants will cover several Kilometers through locations that have significant historical natural, using the principal of complete autonomy.

The tools that make this adventure possible are provided by the organization, with a follow-up structure that guarantees security and information services.

Two adventures will be available, one that will last 8 days and a second one that will take 4 days. In September the 14th, 2019, at 14:30 will start the 8 days adventure, this one could last until the cut-off date on September 22, 2019, at 00:00. The 4 days adventure will start in September 19, lasting until the September 22, 2019, like the 8 days adventure.

The 8-day adventure course

There is a permanent sign that will mark the course on the field, this being part of the GR22, this is a large route connecting 12 Portuguese Historical Villages (AHP).

The course is in a circular shape, having its beginning and ending in the same village, the Historical Village of Sortelha, and has a distance extending to nearly 560 Km.

The 12 historical villages are the following: Sortelha, Castelo Mendo, Almeida, Castelo Rodrigo, Marialva, Trancoso, Linhares da Beira, Piódão, Castelo Novo, Idanha-a-Velha, Monsanto, Belmonte e Sortelha.

The 4-day adventure course

The course you will take is marked on the field (permanent sign) and is part of the GR22 and GR22.1 route , the path marked South Loop.

This course is circular, beginning and ending at the same village – the historical village of Sortelha – and has a total distance of nearly 330 km.

The historical villages are the following: Sortelha, Belmonte, Piódão, Castelo Novo, Idanha-a-Velha, Monsanto, Belmonte e Sortelha.

In this regard, the organization offers unexpected moments throughout The Castles Quest, which can make you more than just a participant in an adventure. You will go through courses made by knights, with each day making you a conqueror.
