Itinerary

Fatima Sanctuary

Get picked up from Lisbon and begin your incredible discovery of Portugal's fascinating culture. Begin at Fátima, where you learn about the apparitions of the Virgin Mary that apparently occurred to a group of children in 1917. Discover the devotion to peace and spirituality at the Fátima Sanctuary. Fátima is one of the most important shrines to the Virgin Mary in the world, as three shepherd children are said to have stated that Mary appeared to them. Fátima is second only to Lourdes in France as Europe’s most important pilgrimage site, with a history and culture that will fascinate the religious and nonreligious alike.

Batalha Monastery

Take a scenic drive to the town of Batalha, where you will find the majestic Monastery of Batalha, unique for its crossing of Gothic and Manueline styles. Monastery of Batalha was ordered construction after the Portuguesa won the Spanish in battle and maintained independence, took over 150 years to be concluded and is part of the network of Royal Pantheons and is considered a world heritage site by UNESCO.

Nazare

Breathe in fresh air atop the Nazaré Cliffs with extraordinary views of the Atlantic Ocean. Learn about the history of this coastal fishing town, a popular summer retreat away from the capital city and about another appearance of Virgin Mary—this one in 1182—and ponder this unique recurrence of divine intervention. The fishing village of Nazaré (the most charismatic fishing village in Portugal), where we can see the fish drought on the beach, as well as the life of the ladies of the "seven skirts" proudly shown on their own. Today Nazaré is also known for its giant waves, but the biggest waves in the world are here in Portugal. All thanks to the phenomenon of the Nazaré Canyon, phenomenal waves that made Nazaré famous all over the world, in 2013 the American surfer McNamara broke the world record when surfing a wave of about 30 meters in height, during the period of the year we can see them with our eyes.

Obidos

Time to pass one of the most beautiful villages of Portugal, within the walls of a medieval castle. Obidos belonged to the defensive pentagon of the Five Castles, this by the hands of the Templars, later used as a wedding gift of D. Dinis to his wife D. Isabel, the village became part of the House of the Queens. Here we will also go to the discovery of one of the best known and appreciated liquors, Óbidos Ginja. In 2007 the Castle of Óbidos was declared by the contest the Seven Wonders of Portugal the second of the seven most important monuments of the Portuguese architectural heritage. On 11 December 2015, UNESCO considered Óbidos as a literary city as part of the Creative Cities Network program.

Ginjinha Liqueur Tasting

Before your return to Lisbon, taste the famous Ginja, a sour-cherry liqueur, also a local specialty.
