Due to the fact that Lisbon is located on the hills, it is simply covered with the best viewpoints, which offer a beautiful view of the city and from different areas you can see the sights of the city, and it is easy to navigate the city without even looking at the map of Lisbon.

Viewpoint (Miradouro) or viewing platform, as it is called in Portuguese, means a golden view, since it opens with views just breathtaking. Almost everywhere there are benches where you can relax after climbing the hill, and superfluous probably will mention that there are always full of lovers, because what can be more romantic than to meet the sunset with such a beautiful view of the city.

Visiting viewpoints are not only tourists, but also locals, many of them have small coffee houses where you can admire the sunset with a cup of “galão” or an espresso, and for amateurs there is always a ginja (port Ginjinha, Ginja) – a Portuguese liqueur, which is made from a cherry, infused with wine alcohol with the addition of sugar.

VIEWPOINT AMOREIRAS 360º
This is the highest area with a 360º view. You can see most of the sights of the city, here and the Castle of St. George, the bridge Vasco da Gama, Bridge 25 April, Monsanto Park, the Aqueduct and many more historical places. On the roof there are several telescopes. Visiting time is 15 minutes, and the cost is 5 euros per person. Opening hours are until 10 pm.

Castle of São Jorge
Tourist guides note that this area can be missed due to the fact that it is paid, as it is in the castle and is quite crowded, plus that, to get to it you need to overcome the climb as the castle is on a high hill. In addition to the the best viewpoints, you can touch the history of Portugal, because the castle of São Jorge, this is the residence of the first king Afonso Henriques, who repelled the castle from the Moors in 1147.

VIEWPOINT DE SÃO PEDRO DE ALCÂNTARA
If, on the contrary, you want to enjoy the view of the Castle of St. George, you should definitely visit the viewpoint of San Pedro de Alcántara. You can reach it by the Gloria funicular from Restauradores Square or walk up from Baixa Chiado. This is a large two-level viewpoint with flower beds and a fountain. It is especially beautiful at night when the city is lit up below. But at the moment it is closed for restoration (1.30.2018)

VIEWPOINT DAS PORTAS DO SOL
Viewpoint das Portas do Sol offers a stunning view of the Tagus River and the neighbourhood of the oldest district in Lisbon – Alfama, it was the only survivor during the earthquake of 1755. Here is a monument to Saint Vincent, the saint patron of Lisbon. The statue of St. Vincent holds a ship with two crows, which are the symbol of the city.

VIEWPOINT SANTA LUZIA
Just next to the viewpoint Miradouro das Portas do Sol there is another small observation platform with a beautiful view of the Tagus River – Santa Luzia

VIEWPOINT CHRIST KING STATUE
On the other side of the river Tejo on the pedestal is the Christ King Statue. Entrance to the territory to the monument is free, but for to rise on the statue will have to pay. The height of the pedestal is 82 meters, so this is one of the highest, and one of the best, viewpoints platforms from which you can see the whole Lisbon.

VIEWPOINT THE RUA AUGUSTA ARCH
The construction of the arch began Marquis of Pombal in 1775, but the final completion of it began 100 years later. And in 2013 on the Arch opened an observation deck. From viewpoint you can see a beautiful view of the Tagus River and the Commerce Square. On the other side, you can see even streets of Pombaline Downtown.

VIEWPOINT LIFT SANTA JUSTA
In the historic center of Lisbon, next to the ruined Carmo Church located the lift of Santa Justa. It has on top a small platform, which also serves as a viewing platform with a view 360º.

ADAMASTOR VIEWPOINT SANTA CATARINA
The Miradouro de Santa Catarina viewpoint is one of the greatest viewpoints of the Rio Tejo, the bridge 25 of April and the Crist King statue. Also this viewpoint is a youth gathering place. On the centre of the Jardim do Alto de Santa Catarina is a stone monument committed to the explorers who conquered the seas surrounding the cape of hope. The monument personifies the harmful seas as a demon, the Adamastror, who the early explorers overcame.
