Praça D. Pedro IV, better known as Rossio, is once again transformed into one of the most magical places in the city during the Christmas season. Between November 14 and December 21, the Rossio Christmas Market returns to downtown Lisbon, bringing together tradition, entertainment and many typical delicacies.

This market is one of the main Christmas meeting points in Lisbon, known for its welcoming atmosphere and diverse offerings. Dozens of wooden huts make up the setting, where visitors can find handcrafted items, regional sweets and original gift ideas.

In keeping with the traditional spirit, the event reinforces the connection to local commerce, with several shops in Baixa Chiado joining in the celebration and offering special suggestions, often with extended hours to facilitate last-minute shopping.

Christmas Train and Daily Parades

One of the main attractions continues to be the electric Christmas Train, with free rides for all visitors. Fully decorated, the train travels through the illuminated streets of Baixa Pombalina, providing a fun and sustainable way to discover the lights and magic of the historic centre.

Christmas Train Timetable:

  • From Sunday – Thursday: 3pm – 10pm
  • Fridays, Saturdays and the eve of public holidays: 3pm to 11pm

The Christmas Parade is another not-to-be missed event. It takes place every day at 5pm and marks the arrival of Santa Claus, accompanied by artists, enchanted characters and lots of entertainment, in a show designed for all ages.

Music, Culture and Tradition

The event begins with high energy, featuring the sounds of the Banda Original Bandalheira and singer Micaela, and offers a continuous musical program over its 38 days of festivities. The Rossio stage will host well-known names in Portuguese popular music, such as Sérgio Rossi, Sónia Costa, Miguel Azevedo, Karina, Romana, Belito and the group Chave D’Ouro.

Portuguese tradition is also represented with choirs, folk dance groups and philharmonic bands, reinforcing the festive and cultural atmosphere of the market.

Santa’s House is once again one of the main points of interest, especially for the younger ones, who will be able to meet Santa Claus and take a photo to remember this magical moment.

Another highlight is the return of the Doll Hospital Christmas Exhibition, a display with over 190 years of history. This space brings together a unique collection and continues to surprise collectors and families with its heritage importance and sentimental value.
