Casa do Penedo also known as Stone Castle or a Stone House, is an architectural monument located between Celorico de Basto and Fafe, in northern Portugal. Its construction began in 1974 and lasted about two years. It is entirely made of rock, other than doors, windows and roof. It is a rural residence, used by its owners as a holiday destination. Today, Casa de Penedo is a small museum of relics and photographs from Penedo’s history, worthy of being one of the most unusual homes.

Located in Serra da Estrela. Serra da Estrela is the highest mountain range in Continental Portugal. Not much is known about this house, but it is thought to be a pastoral shelter. Houses such as these were used to store groceries and implements or to stay overnight during trips with cattle.

It is located northeast of Idanha-a-Nova and suddenly breaks out of the valley. At its highest point, its peak reaches 758 meters. The human presence in this place dates from the Paleolithic. According to a national competition, Monsanto was voted the most Portuguese village in Portugal and is known for its narrow and strange stone constructions. One of their houses awakens special attention by its construction between gigantic stones.

The Chapel of Senhora da Lapa, located on Penamourinho Hill, was built in 1694 in honor of João Gonçalves and his wife Margarida da Silva. The entrance door dates from 1898. Inside, you can see various inscriptions engraved on the ceiling and the picture framed with the history of the sanctuary written by Father José Maria Machado in 1851.

This house turned upside down is not a house, it is a transformation station of EDA, Empresa de Electricidade dos Açores. Instead of something vulgar, the engineers and architects wanted to build something that came into view and it was. This strange house has become an authentic tourist attraction of Furnas and one of the symbols of the region.
