Following a pick-up from your hotel in Lisbon, we’ll turn north to Peniche. There you’ll take a ferry to get to the biggest island of Berlengas Arhipelago – Grande Berlenga.

The Berlengas archipelago is a group of small islands 10 to 15 kilometres off the Portuguese coast, west of the town of Peniche in Oeste region. These islands were traditionally known to British mariners as “the Burlings”. The only habitable island is the largest island, Berlenga Grande, although there is no permanent habitation there at present. The whole island is a nature reserve and home to several protected species of birds and plants. For this reason, you shouldn’t stray from the marked paths.

On island you will visit The Fort of São João Baptista das Berlengas, or simply known as the Fort of the Berlengas. The fortification belonged to a group of defensive military structures meant to protect the municipality located on the coast. The fort, was constructed in 1678 from the remains of a pre-existing monastery (the Monastery of the Misericórdia da Berlenga) which had previously been abandoned.
After lunch, we’ll have degustation of the wine, cheese and olives from this region.

Then you will explore the island’s caves and cliff faces on an included kayak or glass-bottom boat excursion(option)
