In recent years, Portugal has been considered by many to be one of the best tourist destinations in the world, but this week on 10th September was distinguished by World Tourism Organization as“ the world’s best tourist destination for people with disabilities ”.
This was the first prize in this category received by Portugal, showing that the country’s ever-improving commitment to all residents and visitors alike, showing that Portugal must be accessible to all, sharing our unique wonders in the world.
In St. Petersburg, Russia, during the 23rd Assembly of the Organization, this distinction was awarded. This is a recognition of the initiatives that have been undertaken in recent years to make Portugal more inclusive.
An example of these inclusion measures is the “Accessible Beach” program, which makes it possible to access more than 200 bathing areas, or the “Festivals + Accessible”, making it possible for people with reduced mobility to attend shows and events with greater visibility.
This is a well-deserved recognition of a solid work in which Portugal becomes increasingly accessible to all, showing the best it has, and how much still grows and wants to improve.
