Fátima Sanctuary

The Sanctuary of Fátima is a place of devotion and pilgrimage. With a Neo-Baroque style, the Basilica is surrounded by statues of saints and has an impressive terrace, larger than St. Peter’s Square in Rome.

On May 13, 1917, three little shepherds witnessed the first apparition of Our Lady. Lúcia Santos and cousins Jacinta and Francisco Marto saw a bright image, at the foot of a holm oak, Our Lady asked the three shepherds to return on the 13th for 6 months. In the apparitions, the secret of Fatima, composed of 3 parts, was transmitted to Lúcia, Jacinta and Francisco who heard the message that described three visions. In 2000 the Pope beatified Jacinta and Francisco. Lúcia became a nun and died in 2005, having started the beatification process in 2008.

The Sanctuary of Fátima has an intense atmosphere of faith, where pilgrims find a space to demonstrate their belief and emotion through prayers to the Virgin Mary. This atmosphere also attracts thousands of non-believers, unable to deny the feeling of well-being that is felt in the Sanctuary.

This year, the pilgrimage experience will take place in a different way, challenging everyone to express their faith through prayers inside their homes, due to the pandemic caused by Covid-19. To assist pilgrims, the Sanctuary of Fátima created some daily steps to guide all the faithful. Also take advantage of this period to make a virtual visit and get to know this place that millions of people visit every year.

To help the most devout, always taking into account their well-being and health, the Sanctuary of Fátima also has a live online service, which broadcasts 24 hours a day, thus being able to attend mass.

The current moment demands that we stay at home, but it is important that we do not lose sight of the opportunity to get to know this fantastic and extraordinarily devoted place. Discover the tours to Fátima carried out by Go2Lisbon and come and experience a phenomenal experience.
