Let us take you to the oldest neighborhood “Alfama” which will take you back to the medieval time and still your heart by its unique heartbreaking music “Fado”. Enjoy wonderful picturesque viewpoints, narrow cobbled streets and colorful houses, traditional tastes and mysterious stories. Walking is the best way to discover all hidden and magical spots, but the boat cruise is the best way to take a rest after the walk. That´s why we will take you to experience an amazing adventure at the river Tagus. By a boat we will show you much more than the perspective of Lisbon you see from the ground. During 1 hour of the boat cruise you will see important Unesco listed monuments that stands further from the historic center and see much more. You will admire spectacular constructions of the bridges built over the Tagus river, smell the Atlantic Ocean, relax and have a fun.
Our guide will be waiting you in front of the Starbucks café installed in the Rossio station (ideal spot if you need to energize you by a cup of coffee before we start :D) with the logo of Go2Lisbon at the T-shirt. The historical railway station is considered being one of the most majestic constructions of Downtown (Baixa) in Lisbon where we cannot miss to tell you the mysterious story about the king Sebastian whose statue used to be placed in the entrance of the station. Next stop is the square “Restauradores” which commemorates the independence of Portugal from Spain. From there our insider guide will walk you into the hidden palace where we will discover wonderful Mudéjar architecture and introduce you the history of Moors in Lisbon. Our tour will continue to the square where stands the most mysterious church of the city and where we will find out why Lisbon is called “City of Tolerance”. There we will have an opportunity to taste delicious liqueur “Ginjinha” which used to be drink as a medicine. At the next square, we will tell you about battles of brave Portuguese soldiers in 14th century that remarked the history of Portugal. On the Praça de Figueira we will see the statue representing important battle of Aljubarrota and from there we will already enter the oldest and the most picturesque neighborhood Alfama. There is where it all began – the quarter was created over the centuries by various civilizations that occupied the Iberian Peninsula. Our entertaining and knowledgeable guide will walk you through its narrow cobbled streets – that are considered to be the heart of Lisbon. There in beautiful small colorful houses still breathe the history since old Moorish time, because this district is the one that survived the devastating earthquake of 1755 that destroyed about 85% of Lisbon construction at that time. Next stop will be magnificent street art walls representing traditional music “Fado” that was born just nearby that art masterpiece. Today, Fado is a symbol of Lisbon and considered the most valuable Portuguese folk music. From there we will a little bit warm up by climbing stairs up to the wonderful viewpoint where we will face the bridge of 25th April and the statue of Jesus Christ together with marvelous view about the Downtown. Just 5 minutes later we will get to the main entrance of the castle of St. George and admire its medieval fortress. The fortified citadel was built during the Moorish domination (8th-12th cent.) and today the monument tells the legend that all Portuguese children used to listen as the fairytale. We will experience unique atmosphere of this oldest Lisbon neighborhood "Alfama" spreading on the slope between the castle and the river Tagus. We will explore the labyrinth of Alfama old town following lines of orange trees, windowsills with the laundry traditionally hanged across them and revitalizing street art pieces covering the shabby walls. While walking tour we will do some breaks on the most breathtaking terraces ("miradouros") with picturesque viewpoints, relax and talking about exciting stories which will make you will feel as you lived that history with locals. Let us take you to the indispensable highlights of Lisbon, as the Cathedral (Sé) and the streets vibrating by Fado (Portuguese folk music) that makes from Alfama a cultural treasure. Our local guide will take you to hidden places which you would not discover by yourself, tell you some Lisbon secrets and share with you all useful tips that will make your stay more enjoyable and funny. The walk we will finish at the biggest square of Lisbon – Praça de Comércio with the extraordinary Triumphal Arch. After the walking experience our tour will continue on the river Tagus to enjoy wonderful sailing atmosphere and explore picturesque views from the boat. While the cruise through the most beautiful spots we will be watching the most iconic historical monuments and enjoy relaxing atmosphere of the most enjoyable spots of the Tagus estuary. From the river we will observe the most significant Lisbon monuments listed by Unesco lining the river sidewalk. The cruise will take about 1 hour and it will finish back in the port of the square Praça de Comércio/Cais do Sodré, what is ideal spot to have a lunch and enjoy Portuguese traditional dishes in some of the typical Portuguese restaurants which are many in this area. If you during the tour decide to prolong our adventure by walking tour in the Belem park, we can make our tour longer and spend more 2 hours together by exploring spectacular Unesco monuments. They were built along the river and are the prominent examples of the Manueline architecture – such as the tower Belem, the extraordinary construction remarkable for the Golden Age of Discoveries of Portugal. By side stands also the Memorial of Discoveries, where used to be the departing spot of great Portuguese ships leaving their home to bring back to their country fame and wealth. There we can also stop to taste delicious pastry, renowned for its origin. The creamy custard Pastel de Belem was invented by the monks who lived in the Hieronymites monastery. Sintra Cascais private tour prepared for a full day (around 8 hours), although, if you have a shorter time, we can fit it to your needs (please let us know before/after booking). We accept less or more duration of the private tours to fit your needs, adapting the itinerary accordingly - if you wish to visit more attractions in Sintra or to have more time to see and appreciate calmly of certain sites, you have the opportunity to extend tour duration by purchasing the extra hours of the tour.
